1908 Baseball Newspaper Guide: The East
We’re following along the same pattern that we introduced last time. Again, we’re only looking at newspapers from June 10, 1908. We’ll look at the different papers for the sake of comparison.
Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Inquirer is the obvious first stop in the City of Brotherly Love.
It’s not a bad newspaper — it’s clean and easy to follow.
I’m not sure why this is, but I could only find gossip news about the Phillies.
Sadly, The Philadelphia Inquirer is the only option we have for 1908 in Philadelphia.
Boston
The Boston Globe is probably going to be your default option here.
Now THIS is a sports section.
There’s a treat here, of course. You’ve got a cartoon:
And you’ve also got a phot of a rookie: the somewhat obscure Larry Gardner:
It’s a great paper — clearly one of the best in the country in 1908.

Thanks .. always appreciate your work. I have been following the Inter Ocean from Chicago thru June of '08 but since the Sox have now collapsed I will be looking for another prime paper for the season. Detroit is an obvious choice I guess...but this Philly paper looks good! Thanks
