1949 Statistics Update
We’re getting to a point in the season when the stats are starting to really become interesting. Let’s jump right in!
Standings
There’s not a ton to say about the standings here, other than the fact that my managerial skills aren’t really helping the bad teams. The Giants are the big surprise team in the National League. As for the American League — I’m not sure that there’s a favorite at all at this point.
Leaders
The story behind the batting leaders is clearly Ralph Kiner, who seriously looks like the second coming of Babe Ruth. I’d be shocked if he didn’t win the National League MVP.
We don’t have any real standout pitchers at the moment, though I would draw your attention to the excellent work that the New York Giants starting pitchers have done.
Team Statistics
There’s not a huge change here from last time. The Giants are still pitching very well, the Athletics are doing well based on having a great on-base percentage and a great slugging percentage, and the bad teams are still really bad.
I consider team double plays turned to be the most interesting fielding stat:
Note that the Athletics don’t have a huge lead over the competition anymore. Interesting stuff.
