A Quick One
We tend to forget about the old days of pre-internet baseball coverage, back when the newspaper office was one of the most popular places in town:
I’ll tell you one thing, though: if they were trying to follow this game, they’d better get in line quick. This one was over in a jiffy.
Pitching Duel
This was one of those real old fashioned pitching duels, one of those games where nobody could get a hit on either side.
I’ll just share the boxscore with you, since there were really no offensive highlights:
Philadelphia scored its only run in the top of the 5th inning, finally figuring out how to piece together something amid the few baserunners it could muster.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a game before where neither team got so much as a single extra base hit. Brooklyn committed 3 errors, which led directly to its downfall. The one run that scored was not charged as earned.
It wasn’t a great game for the batting averages, but it certainly was a tense one. Sometimes the lower scoring games are the best games.
