Another Crazy One
Blame it all John Kane.
This was going to be another easy New York Giants win. Cincinnati is at the bottom of the National League, and the first-place Giants went ahead in the top of the 7th inning.
With only 4 outs to go and Hooks Wiltse on the mound, you’d think that the result would be predictable.
But then Kane did this:
And now we were tied at 4.
The Giants came storming back, however. Of course they did — it’s all the know. Mike Donlin came up with one out and Roger Bresnahan on at first base:
Campbell’s wild pitch didn’t exactly instill confidence in the hometown Reds fans. I decided that the best course of action was to walk Donlin and set up the force play:
And it worked. The next two Giants made outs, and we were on our way to extra innings.
The Giants did prevail in the end, however. An error, a single, and a hit by pitcher in the top of the 12th set things up for Al Bridwell:
New York added on a second run before all the shouting was over, finishing this one off in style.
At 23-6, the Giants look absolutely unstoppable.
