Another Thriller
This was one of those long games that lacked any real drama.
The Cubs and Phillies wound up going into the late innings tied, and the bats simply fell asleep. It wasn’t until Wildfire Schulte came up in the bottom of the 12th that things were finally settled:
This was an interesting way to end it, by the way. There was a runner on third base, and, naturally, the Phillies decided to bring the infield in. That means that certain ground balls can get through for singles, which is what did them in.
There was only one successful bunt in this game. Once again, I’ve got to think about things I can do to increase the number of successful bunts.
Finally, it’s not all that rare to see both pitchers go the distance in a 1908 extra inning game. Both of these guys pitched well, despite Reulbach’s 6 walks.
