Bad Diamond Mind Baseball Play By Play
Yep, it’s time for more Diamond Mind Baseball play by play examples. Let’s take a look at some “bad” play by play.

Awful Plays
Aha! You thought I was going to focus only on bad play by play, right? Let’s look first at some examples of descriptions of bad plays.
Here are a few examples I’ve collected of good play by play of really poor plays.
I like this one a lot. No need to name any names, or to mince words. This example just gets straight to the point.
This is another great example of play by play with very good imagery. That Cardinal outfield needs to learn how to communicate!
Ralph Kiner is an excellent offensive player, but really needs to work on his defense. This one was embarrassing.
Bad Humor
Actually, some of these are pretty funny.
This one is pretty cringe inducing if you’re a White Sox fan. You’ve got to hope that Philley would stop laughing and start moving over to third base - especially considering how poorly the White Sox have played so far this season.
I don’t know of any other text-based sports games that have announcers that make mistakes like this.
Finally, I’m not sure if this one actually qualifies as “humor,” but it sure gives you an interesting mental image.
Bad Play By Play
Finally, I have come across a few examples of play by play that probably should be clarified or changed.
I mean, I understand what the idea is here, but it just doesn’t work. I wasn’t sure if George Kell was injured or exactly what was happening here. I had to read this one a few times before understanding it — not what you want your users to have to do.
This one is extremely frustrating because I don’t know where the ball was hit. It was hit down one of the lines. I’ve got no idea who fielded it, and only know that Gene Woodling wound up hitting a triple. Fortunately, play by play like this in Diamond Mind Baseball is extremely rare.
Unfortunately, this is an example of just trying too hard. If you’re going to use the “sometimes he who hesitates is NOT lost” line, follow it up by mentioning that DiMaggio hit a single. The bad check in the bank line makes it even more confusing, and it took me a little while to realize that the outcome was a single.
I do have more examples of bad play by play, but not many. I’ve got many more examples of awful plays, and a few other silly or entertaining play by play snippets. I’ll post it all in due time.
