Creating Sadaharu Oh In OOTP 25
I’ve been looking around for information on the best way to create a player in OOTP from scratch.
It turns out I didn’t need to.
You can import Sadaharu Oh in OOTP 25. In fact, you can import any Japanese player who has a record on Baseball Reference.
However, it won’t import correctly.
Oh came with no regular seasons stats at all, though this might be because of the options I chose (check my work in the video).
However, he has no potential, and looks like an awful player:
Fortunately, you can go into the editor and make changes as needed. I decided to let him be a little bit overpowered for the sake of making my project interesting.
I’m not sure why, but it seems that OOTP treats historic Japanese statistics as if it were single A ball. I don’t think this is necessarily deliberate. However, given OOTP’s apparently rocky relationship with NPB, it doesn’t seem likely that this will change anytime soon.
But the interesting thing is that this discovery means we can technically make custom historic Japanese seasons. There’s a lot we could do with just a little bit of tinkering.
