Day In Review: June 6, 1949
I probably could have written up something about the Indians - Athletics game, but I chose not to.
Tigers 8, Red Sox 7: Briggs Stadium was alive as the Tigers managed to put away the first place Red Sox in this tight affair. Boston scored 3 in the bottom of the 9th to make it interesting, but fell flat in the end. Watch the game here.
Indians 3, Athletics 2: Frank Papish throws a complete game in front of the hometown crowd as the Indians move back into sole possession of first place. Watch the game here.
Pirates 14, Dodgers 11: Ebbets Field was the site of another absolutely wild game, as the Pirates and Dodgers beat up on each other. Jackie Robinson went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple, and Ralph Kiner went 4 for 6 with two doubles. The pitchers, meanwhile, all went into hiding.
Braves 3, Cardinals 0: Johnny Sain excited the hometown fans by shutting down the Cardinals completely on 6 hits.
Giants 7, Reds 4: The Polo Grounds faithful were rewarded in this one, as the Giants made short work of the Reds. Watch the game here.
Standings
The New York Giants are still running away with things in the National League. Cleveland, meanwhile, is still just able to hold on to first place in the American.
