DiMaggio Leads The Way
The 1949 Senators are really frustrating.
They had a chance in this game. Boston had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th — big, but certainly not insurmountable.
At least Al Kozar wasn’t intimidated:
Kozar’s single chopped the lead to 4-3, but Washington couldn’t manage to score that tying run in the 8th.
The Senators did have one more desperation chance in the bottom of the 9th, when Eddie Robinson singled with one out:
That brought up Clyde Vollmer, who has the power to win it:
Not today, I”m afraid.
Forget about the close score, the fact that the Senators outhit the Red Sox, or the 3 Boston double plays. Focus instead on Dom DiMaggio, who is now hitting .407 after going 2 for 4. I know it’s early, but there is a chance.
Presidential Visit
When I looked up the newspaper coverage of this game, you can imagine my surprise when I came across this:
Does anybody know of other times when the President attended regular season baseball games that were not on special occasions (opening day, July 4th, etc.)?

Standings
Everybody’s been telling me that the Dodgers are going to turn it around. Well, they’ve won 8 in a row now, and yet it hasn’t been nearly enough. It’s going to take a miracle.
