Iconic Baseball Music
As far as I’m concerned, the theme song from the original RBI Baseball (プロ野球ファミリースタジアム or just ファミスタ in Japanese) is the most iconic and recognizable piece of baseball music out there.
I was interested to know if it came from a Japanese baseball fight song of some sort, but it doesn’t seem like it. It seems that it was an original composition by Namco back in 1986.
But that brings other questions to mind. Is there anything you’d consider to be “iconic” baseball music?
I suppose we don’t have baseball fight songs in the United States like we do for football, especially college football. I guess we could argue that this was different back in the early 1900s, the days of Boston fans singing “Tessie” at Honus Wagner during the World Series.
But, seriously, even that doesn’t really count as an “iconic” song.
I guess we could count Take Me Out To The Ballgame, though it feels dated and worn.
But what do you think?
I still enjoy "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." However, I'm 80 so maybe I'm as dated and worn as the song. As a Red Sox fan, I also like "Tessie" by the Dropkick Murphys.
As for a more generic baseball anthem, how about "Centerfield" by John Fogarty? It has references to Joe DiMaggio, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays and Ty Cobb. I think it's a song that appeals to everyone who ever wanted to play baseball.
