Jumpers
I’ve always wanted to look into the players who jumped from the National League to the American League before the 1901 season.
Sure, we know about McGraw and Lajoie. But what about the rest of them? And how many were there?
This is my attempt to collect all of these player names in one place. In the interest of space, this post will be simple and short — just a list of names and links. We’ll go over these individual players later. This includes only players jumping to the American League before the 1901 season; we’ll cover the guys who jumped during the season later.
And, yes, I know that some of these guys were probably not under contract with their 1900 National League team before signing their 1901 contract. Think of this as more of a placeholder for further research. For example, in order to figure out just which 2 games Roger Bresnahan appeared in for the 1900 Chicago Orphans, it’s going to take me more digging than I can afford for this post.

Like I said, we’ll cover these guys in more detail in the future. I’m not certain if this list of 53 names is actually all-inclusive; in fact, the reason why I wanted to do this was because I couldn’t find a good list anywhere else. If I find anybody else, I’ll let you know.
Edit: I will edit this post as time goes on, and as I discover more potential “jumpers” to add to the list.
