More 1908 Offense
This one was crazy. I mean, just watch it:
This game was simply full of base hits - hits that came from both teams. There were 31 hits in all, making you wonder whatever happened to the hitless “deadball” era.
New York went out to an early 4 run lead, swiftly gave up 4 more runs, and then the seesaw went, back and forth. The Phillies came very close to tying it in the top of the 9th, but it was too little, too late.
Both Corridon and McGinnity had awful starts. None of the relief pitchers provided any actual relief.
Roger Bresnahan went 4 for 4, making me feel even better about starting him at leadoff for the Giants.
Mickey Doolan, meanwhile, led the Phillies, going 3 for 4 in a very good outing.
This one was just crazy, and had a little bit of everything. Well — everything except for a successful sacrifice bunt, that is. And that’s the way it goes.
