Not So Great?
It happened again. And I swear it’s not my fault.
Brooklyn went into the bottom of the 7th of this game in St. Louis leading 3-1. Jackie Robinson had a great day at the plate, driving in all 3 runs and making clutch plays everywhere.
But the Cardinals came back.
Eddie Kazak was walked with the bases loaded to make it a 3-2 game.
Later, in the bottom of the 9th, Stan Musial took advantage of poor Brooklyn fielding:
That was followed by this base hit by Kazak:
And then up came Nippy Jones:
Eventually, Red Schoendienst sent everybody home in the bottom of the 12th:
It was another frustrating loss for Brooklyn in a season that has seen plenty of frustration.
And, seriously, you’ve got to blame the pitching here. The Dodgers simply couldn’t get any production out of their pitchers in this game, for whatever reason. St. Louis had a field day at the plate, and received 7 walks to boot.
At this stage, I’ve written off Brooklyn’s chances of reaching the New York Giants. It’s only mid-June, but it’s simply not happening.
