OOTP 25 Random Debut Draft Results
I completed my first OOTP random debut draft the other day.
The results are fairly interesting.
First of all, you should know that I created a few players by hand. These include Sadaharu Oh, Shigeo Nagashima, and Masaichi Kaneda — 3 Japanese legends who would never be automatically created by OOTP, since they never played in the United States.
I also created Josh Gibson and Satchel Paige. I wanted to make Paige in hopes of avoiding having him come into the major leagues in his late 40s, which seems like a waste. And Gibson, of course, would never be created automatically due to how random debut works.
The draft results were… interesting. Here’s the log of the first round picks:
I didn’t alter Paige at all — OOTP makes his early years that good. Oh and Nagashima are a bit overpowered, I’ll admit.
But a lot of these players surprise me. I mean, George Van Haltren? Jimmy Bannon? Billy Earle? These guys were drafted over Albert Belle?
And have you ever heard of Johnny Schulte?
Anyway, I’m interested to know what you think — particularly if you’ve also had experience doing a random debut draft with OOTP. Is it common for the game to overvalue 19th century players and extremely obscure players?
