Replay Imitates Real Life
In my 1908 replay, the New York Giants defeated the Brooklyn Superbas in Brooklyn, 1-0, on May 29:
Amazingly, the two teams had the exact same score when they played on that day in real life:
The other bit that surprised me was discovering that my starting pitchers were the same as the starters in real life. That might not surprise you — but you have to realize that I’m not using real life lineups. The transactions and pitching decisions are completely my own.
This was actually a big win for Mathewson in real life. He had come off 4 straight poor starts, and was looking to get back to winning ways.
Amazingly, the Giants won this game in real life on only 3 hits. Their lone run was manufactured.
