Seventh Street And Florida Avenue
I thought for sure that the Browns had this one in the bag.
They had a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th inning. The Senators are a bad team, and I wasn’t expecting anything exciting to happen.
Boy, was I wrong.
With one out in the bottom of the 9th, a double and a walk had the Browns reeling. Jerry Freeman reached on an error by pitcher Jack Powell, who was pushing hard for a complete game.
With the bases loaded, Bob Ganley came up to do his damage:
And, just like that, this game was tied.
I decided to walk Clyde Milan intentionally. That brought up Ollie Pickering, a pinch hitter for the Washington pitcher:
There were now two men out, and it was up to Jim Delahanty, always a threat:
That ended the threat but the Browns still had to figure out how to get a run. And they had a heck of a time doing it.
Jerry Freeman came up in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded and one out, but couldn’t get it done:
Freeman’s failure was followed by a pop out to second by Ganley, and on we marched.
It wasn’t until the bottom of the 12th that real action took place. Otis Clymer led it off for Washington in style:
And then, with one out, George McBride came up to send us all home:
Washington is a bad team, but they’re not all the way out of it yet. St. Louis, meanwhile, have to wonder what in the world happened to their bats.
