St. Louis Blues
The St. Louis Cardinals have really struggled in this replay. This game was really no exception.
St. Louis worked hard to overcome an early 3-1 deficit against the lowly Phillies. This included this double by Joe Garagiola in the 8th inning:
It then stretched on to Tommy Glaviano’s at bat with two on and two out in the bottom of the 9th:
Glaviano’s double tied the game at 3. However, the Cardinals wound up regretting not scoring the winning run.
Granny Hamner opened things off in the top of the 11th for the Phillies:
That brought up Richie Ashburn, who decided to bunt:
It was then up to Stan Lopata:
And that’s how this one ended.
The Cardinals have had good pitching and a reasonably good offense. They just can’t seem to drive runners in when it counts.

Senators 4, Tigers 3: At Washington, Joe Haynes threw a complete game to lift the last place Senators over the Tigers.
Athletics 6, Browns 0: At Philadelphia, Lou Brissie struck out 10 in a complete game shutout victory.

Phillies 4, Cardinals 3 (11): At St. Louis, see above.
Standings
I’m starting to believe that the National League will turn into a Giants - Dodgers race.
