Stop Using AI
Since this is mostly a “podcast” rant on my part, I’ll make the reading section brief and to the point.
If you’re going to talk about your replay, please do not use AI to draft it.
I don’t care if you use AI to plan what you want to say. I don’t care if you ask AI whether what you’ve written is readable or not.
What I do care about, though, is that you don’t have AI do all the creative work for you. I care about this because I can tell that AI wrote it for you. And I care about it because I’d much rather read what you have to say than what AI thinks.
Look - I know that not everybody is gifted with the ability to write beautiful prose for pages on end. And, actually, it’s a good thing. If we were all sitting around writing all day long, there would be nobody to do the reading. It would be like getting a bunch of extroverted type-A people together in the same room and letting them go at it. We’d never get anything done.
But what I want to see in your writing is authenticity. And there’s nothing authentic about using AI.
AI didn’t play your replay, did it? Then why ask it to tell you what you did?
If you want to comment on one of my posts, please use your own language. Please do not have AI draft something.
I can tell if it’s AI drafted. There’s a certain logical style that is unique to AI and yet is foreign to most actual human beings. There’s also a certain way that AI will formulate a multiple paragraph essay that differs greatly from what most people do.
Just don’t do it. Write something silly instead. Make spelling mistakes. Be yourself.
But please, please be authentic. This is about community, not perfection.
