The Mighty Phillies
Never count out the 1908 Phillies.
The Cubs were up by 1 at one point in time. However, the Phillies found a way to come back.
Two errors and a walk loaded the bases for the Phillies in the top of the 8th inning. Eddie Grant then came up with one man out:
That sacrifice fly tied the game at one.
Later, in the top of the 9th, Sherry Magee singled and stole second, setting things up nicely for Otto Knabe:
Knabe was thrown out trying to steal second, but the damage had been done. The Phillies got a 2-1 lead, and hung on to win it in the end.
I doubt Philadelphia will challenge for the pennant. However, they are certainly good at playing the spoiler role.
