I am so relieved to hear that multiple projects are more common than I thought.

Am retired and am currently about 25% into my full 1952 MLB replay (APBA). I was initially attracted to it because it was the last season for all 16 franchises in the same city they had been for half a century. But I’m already getting a bit bored. Too many obscure players I’ve simply never heard of. The Yankees are already running away with the AL, while it’s obvious the NL will be a two-team race between the Giants and Dodgers.

As a result, I’ve recently been toying with the idea of also starting a 1978 replay project. Four great division races. And, since I turned 19 in the summer of ‘78, it would take me back to an outstanding time in my life where I was playing and following baseball closely, and can remember almost every MLB player.

After reading these comments, jumping back and forth from 1952 to ‘78 every couple of months might not be such a bad idea for me.

I like to do historical season replays on OOTP, and I'm currently playing through 1908, 1927, and 1996. I realize there are sims that would get me more realistic results (though I'm quite happy with OOTP27's results) but I really like the visuals OOTP...the accurate parks, uniforms, face gen, etc. The bottom line is that I'm having a ton of fun, and that is my rule with sims. Having fun is my #1 priority when playing sims.

Fun is always good. I like to do my more “what if” stuff with OOTP, where I might trade some players or let the AI move things around, which I don’t usually do with the more traditional baseball games. OOTP can fill the void of player movement more organically than I could on my own.

OOTP would also be fine for a historical as-played replay. It only lacks some of the more nuanced historical transactions that some of the other games offer. But for that type of replay, I have other games I can go to. For what-ifs, though, OOTP is really the one that works best for me, although I haven’t tried the new features in APC for this yet.

Agreed. I also play “what if” scenarios as well. Usually after I run through several historical replays. The thing I like about OOTP is that there is just so much you can do with it…and it has nice visuals which help with the immersion. At least for me.

Yep, that is a nice feature with OOTP, even doing a historical replay you can have it run through all the seasons prior to that year, and it will pick up the history in the context of your replay. Or it will know the real history and go from there.

I enjoy the visual aspects as well. Especially the old parks and uniforms it helps set the stage and as you said all adds to the immersion. Animation is fine, it is really just a chalkboard or visual aid device. Even with the APC chalkboard once I get into the game it works well too.

I tried and couldn’t get into either one so I scrapped them and started something I’ve never done. I am currently doing the 1924 Hilldale Athletic Club vs the 1924 MLB. Loving this replay 128 game project and I’m 93 games in and having a blast. With Strat o Matic.

Not only do I have multiple projects (1977 Phillies replay, On-Deck Legends project, 1985 Dolphins Replay, Fast Drive Football Super Bowl Tournament 4 Score Baseball 1980 Phillies replay) but in my 1977 replay I’m using HMB, Season Ticket Baseball, Action! PC Baseball, APBA Master Game Baseball, Strat-o-Matic Baseball, Inside Pitch Baseball, and Payoff Pitch Baseball, whew! By the time certain games cycle around I’ve forgotten how to play them!

I generally have two sim/replays going. I started a 1930 APBA baseball and every week on the baseball calendar I switched to a different project and game of much smaller scale (like a 1967 Tigers replay with Season Ticket, or World Series match ups using other games).

Definitely keeps things fresh. For the record, the 1930 complete replay took almost three years, but I scored each game on paper and used Excel to keep stats. That takes longer and the paper score sheets add up, but at the end of the season I felt like I really experienced the 1930 season.

Also, if there is a book about the season you are simming, read it, This really adds some flavor to the sim.

I have attempted many projects during the past 60 years, but only completed replays of one team in baseball and football. I often had multiple projects started that I failed to finish. Always meeds of life like family, work, church, etc required lots of my time. i have never been able to finish any league replays but I have completed several single team replays in football and one in baseball.

I have multiple sims on one project. When I get bored with one sim I move on to another, but its always working towards completing the project

I have 3 major projects going now. Replay of 1927 Yanks using several different games including Fall Classic and Season Ticket, a What If Munson replay of which I have already finished 1979 as if Munson never got on that plane and I will be starting 1980 soon using Munson's cards from different earlier seasons, and a Mantle Best Decade replay using Replay Baseball and Strat. Once I get a little bored with one project, I just turn to another to keep the fire going.

I only run one baseball project at a time. I am in the 5th season of my shortened MLB project. I started with 2020, my first SOM set, and each year play a 22-game season. Each team plays 12 divisional games and 10 regional games. Winners of each division and region, as well as some wild cards, qualify for the playoffs (16 in total). In the "offseason", I run the Hawaiian Winter League, where I have all of the short cards from each team playing in a small season. This process just continues each time I want to play baseball. I am still finishing 2024 MLB, but it is a fun way to have an ongoing universe with stats, records, and soon to be a Hall of Fame.

I have 4 projects going on now. Pine Tar 1960 APBA 1969 POP 2019 and SOM 1984. I am retired so Monday thru Thursday are APBA and POP. Friday thru Sunday Pine Tar and SOM. I am determined to finish all 4

I have started and stopped many long term projects. I am in the middle of rolling a game for every game Tom Seaver pitched. I’m up to 1981 and I started this back in 2015. I try to keep a system in place that I can pick up where I left off ldespite a long layoff. With the Seaver replay, I had special scorebooks made that and a spreadsheet that I’ve kept to tally all the stats.

I usually only have one save going at a time. I still play old ootp21, but recently have been trying 23 and playing in Japan.
