I have been really enjoying your ongoing coverage of National Pastime. Wow, $750k a year in 1984 that is around 2 mil today. I wonder what they netted? People can wonder if this is the golden age of the hobby now, certainly in the case for APBA that was the golden era. Did Seitz and Van Beek ever meet?

I'm not sure what APBA netted at that time, but I do know that Seitz was putting tons of money into creating cards. The original 1983 season APBA cards are quite common — or they were, at least, back before big companies started buying up all the eBay stock.

Van Beek attended the APBA convention in 1975. He allegedly tried to meet with Seitz at the time, but was rebuffed by APBA Vice President Fritz Light. It took a while for Van Beek to convince Light that he was indeed the original patent holder of the game that APBA was based on.

Van Beek apparently bought a copy of APBA baseball sometime in the early 1960s. I'm not sure if he ever wrote to Seitz, though.
