I remember Fleer being kind of hard to find. I usually had to go to a card shop to buy a pack.

Yes, if you were simply buying cards at the corner market, it was Topps or bust. I first saw Donruss at one in 1988 which was when I knew that they were going against their old short-printing strategy and were now going to flood the market

Definitely remember having the pine tar card. Great set, really takes me back ti that tine period. Somewhere between 82/83 I started buying cards and became a fan...I miss those days of baseball....the game is almost sterile now compared to the characters of game at that time and before

I used to buy Fleer and Topps starting with the 1985 season cards through about 1988. I'm going to have to take a peak at them of these days as it's been ages.

I need to buy this set and have it nearby as I continue rolling 1984. I didn't know all those cards came from the same year, LOL!

I need to save up my pennies to get this 1984 Fleer set. The more I look at the cards, the more I want it in my collection.

Wonderful post ! I bought this set back in 1990 while on vacation in Maine with my parents and siblings. Your post brought back all the fond memories of this set (Dwight Gooden rookie, I believe, also in this set).
