Frustration in Pittsburgh
I’m not sure how the 1908 Pirates are going to compete for the pennant.
It’s not that there’s anything wrong with the team or how their cards have been made. It’s that I simply can’t get them to win games.
Everything seemed to go wrong for them in this game. The Superbas, one of the worst teams in the National League, overcame a 2-0 deficit with a run in the top of the 7th and two more in the top of the 9th.
The Pirates could have scored another in the bottom of the 7th. However, catcher Beals Becker was thrown out trying to score on a single by pitcher Howie Camnitz.
Sometimes the dice don’t roll your way. Sometimes, though, your luck is so bad that you’ve got to wonder if something isn’t going on.
Wagner was 2 for 4, bringing his average up to .378. It would be nice if somebody around him could get a base hit.
