I've always heard the old Yankee stadium referred to as a "bandbox." Were the outfield walls further back in that era? I just don't ever remember it being "pitcher friendly."

LCF at Yankee Stadium was gradually moved in over the years as Monument Park expanded and as it became obvious that football and soccer would no longer be played there. When the renovated park opened in 1976 it was 430 feet and even at its closest in 1988 it was 399, which is what the current Yankee Stadium has as well.

In Dave Winfield's first full year playing at Yankee Stadium he hit 14 HR there but 23 on the road. Before the renovation, in 1950 Joe DiMaggio hit 9 HR at home but also 23 on the road
