1949 Diamond Mind Baseball Replay
I’ve been conducting a replay of the 1949 Major League Baseball season with Diamond Mind Baseball.
The rules of this replay are simple. I control the home team for every game. I play out every single game. I choose lineups for both teams for every game — and, no, I’m not using the actual lineups. I have kept real-life transactions on, and do my best to use players in a realistic manner, though I also keep an eye on their performance in the replay.
I’m also using the as-scheduled schedule, not the as-played schedule.
I’ve been uploading videos of selected games on my YouTube channel. You can find a playlist for this project here. Please note that I do not feature every game on the channel, and that all broadcasts are live and uncut. Also note that the channel is several games ahead of the blog, and will remain so in the future.

Game Recaps
Please note that I do not provide full write-ups for every single game I play. I originally was going to limit myself to one post for each replay date. However, I soon learned that there were too many close and interesting games to keep to that plan. As a result, I try to write up a recap for every single game that has a memorable story associated with it.

April 1949 Statistics
April 1949 Statistics It’s hard to review a baseball simulator in an article or two. There’s really nothing quite like actually playing through each game yourself, appreciating the strengths and weaknesses of the game engine and the user interface as you go.

Ugly Game
Ugly Game This is one of the ugliest games I’ve ever played. It was actually somewhat painful to play through. As a result, this writeup will be a bit different than normal. Legions of Men Left On Base Take a look at the boxscore:
Still Waiting 'Till Next Year?
Still Waiting ‘Till Next Year? We’ll jump right into the 8th inning in this one, Brooklyn leading 4-2. This is a game that Brooklyn should be able to win easily. After all, the Reds are coming into this one at 3-10, and have one of the worst offensive attacks in the majors.
Late Onslaught
Late Onslaught The 1949 Phillies weren’t a great team, and we all know about the 1949 Cardinals. However, even the futile Phils won a game here and then. It happened in real life, after all:
